Doornkraal has always had horses. We have relied on them for the many generations and the 140 years that this farm has been in care of the Le Roux family. And although horses are not used any more in the daily farming activities, they remain loved and trusted companions. We highly value a good temperament, willingness and kindness towards people in a riding horse.

Therefore DOORNKRAAL HORSES are carefully selected from various bloodlines of South African horses that was bred for local conditions – the legendary Cape Riding Horse, Boerperd and Nooitgedachter – known for their outstanding temperament, versatility, riding comfort and sure-footedness.

The big variety of routes were selected to introduce riders to the breathtaking and unspoilt Klein Karoo landscape. Duration of rides are from 1½ hours to multi day guided adventures.

We accommodate riders of all ages and skill levels.

Guides and Instructors

Always present to assist and they are there to make sure you have a memorable experience.

Level of riding experience

Beginner Rider (totally new to riding); Intermediate Rider (starting to learn the ropes, but lacks confidence); Accomplished Rider (has some experience and can also trot and canter short distances); Expert Rider (can ride well).

Tailor made trips

All activities can be tailor made according to your preferences. We can go as extravagant as you wish!

Our horses

Well schooled Boerperd, Nooitgedacht and Cape Riding Horses, selected for temperament, sure-footedness and character.

Maximum Riders

Maximum number of riders per activity is limited to 12, and it might be less, depending on the activity.

Picnics and sundowners

Can be arranged at least one day in advance as part of any riding activity. Cost per person from R250/p for sundowners or R300/p for a picnic. It will be something to remember!

Kids’ Parties and Team Building

Can be arranged at least one day in advance as part of any riding activity. Cost per person from R250/p for sundowners or R300/p for a picnic. It will be something to remember!

Starting times

Between 07:00 and 18:00 daily. Please arrive 15 – 30 minutes before your starting time so that you have enough time to sign the indemnity & waiver, fit a riding cap and receive the safety briefing.

Riding Caps

Supplied by us. Riders are requested to wear a cap for the duration of the outride or activity.

Dress

Long pants or riding breeches and closed shoes. Avoid clothing which can be damaged by shrubs and branches (e.g. down jackets, microfibre). We provide riding hats.

Bookings

Essential, even if you decide to join us at the last minute. We take our time and give attention to details to prepare for a ride.
